Ultimate Sloppy Joes are quick, easy and delicious! Great for a family dinner or double the recipe for entertaining a group. This is the perfect Sloppy Joes recipe!
Ingredients:
2 lbs. ground beef
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 cup ketchup
2 tbsp. tomato paste
2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp. prepared mustard
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
8-10 Sandwich Buns
Cheese slices (optional)
Directions:
In a large skillet, brown ground beef, drain oil. Add onion and green pepper and saute for 7 minutes. Add ketchup, tomato paste, brown, sugar, vinegar, mustard, garlic powder and salt. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. If mixture is too thick a small amount of water may be added. Place sloppy joe mixture on buns, add cheese, if desired and serve. Serves 8 large sandwiches or 10 smaller sandwiches.
Variations:
Add 2 cups chopped mushrooms to sauce mixture before simmering
For spicy sloppy joes, add 1 tsp red pepper flakes when adding garlic powder
Omit buns and serve meat mixture over rice, noodles, macaroni or pasta
Add 1 cup of mexican corn to sauce
Add 1 small can of green chiles to sauce
Substitute lean ground turkey instead of ground beef for a lower fat version
Use mini sandwich buns and make up to 20 snack size sandwiches
Brush inside of sandwich buns with butter and toast in oven before serving
Add more vinegar for a more tangy sauce
Can be made in a slow cooker
