Paleo Snack - Sneak A Snack Without Being Sneaky

A Paleo snack keeps you going and going...
Have you noticed how, when you're on one of those much-touted low-fat diets, you never seem to be satisfied?
Moreover, your weight control is something akin to being on a perpetual merry-go-round - or a see-saw, to be more aligned. On again/off again - up/back down.
They quite simply didn't work.
There's a surprisingly simple reason for this effect...
One prime reason for constant hunger relates to fluctuations in blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar levels become too low and unbalanced, hunger sets in.
Insulin is a hormone that fuels blood sugar into our fat cells and actively promotes the storing up and promoting of fat cells, thereby causing obesity.
People with a lot of weight to lose have problems with their insulin. A diet that is rich in carbohydrates, elevates insulin levels. It stands to reason that a diet that is low in carbohydrates will be much better for people intent on losing weight.
Don't challenge yourself, challenge your fat cells...
A Paleo diet is, amongst other things, a low-carbohydrate diet.
Switching to a Paleo diet, AND ALSO including lean, good-quality protein and omega-3 fats in your meals, will retrain your body, telling it not to rely heavily on glucose. Telling it to utilize fats instead.
Lowering your insulin levels will challenge the fat cells, not only to stop producing fat, but also to release the stored fat.
And where does that fat go? Well, your body burns it for energy. You begin to lose weight! And appetite is naturally suppressed to boot.
But a snack attack could come back...
What to do? Despite being not all that hungry, there will always be times when you rely on snacks. For example, you might just fancy eating something! Who knows?
Often, though, there are social reasons, such as when you are required to take food to some sort of social gathering.
For these snacks not to wreak havoc on your diet, make them Paleo-based, with healthy fats and good-quality protein.
When making sweet treats, low sugar is essential. With a little bit of forward planning (and all Paleo devotees accept this as part of their processed-food-free journey), you can easily be prepared for any event.
Here are some Paleo snack ideas...
These aren't recipes, per se - just ideas. There are plenty of recipe books around to satisfy everyone.
Nuts to you...
Oven-roasted, spicy nuts are a terrific standby. Choose your favourite nuts and lace them with some coconut oil (or cold-pressed olive oil) and toss in your favourite spices such as cumin, coriander and chili. Be creative.
They're a blast, and they last. Moreover they are satisfying and keep those hunger pangs at bay.
Things happen after an egg...
Have some hard-boiled eggs in the fridge. They provide so many options for quick, impressive snacks.
One favourite is to halve them, remove that yellow bit (e.g. pop it in your mouth), fill them with guacamole and sprinkle toasted pepitas on top. They are deceptively simple to make, and yet, guests think you have gone to a lot of trouble! Which you might have, of course, depending on how much difficulty you have in boiling an egg. You can do several at a time, you know.
Dip into Humus Paleo style...
For people who yearn for snacks such as humus, a cauliflower-based one is terrific and no-one would ever suspect.
Simply replace the chick peas with well-cooked cauliflower and blend in the traditional ingredients. Result? You be the judge!
Raw sweet treat...
On the raw side of Paleo you can blend fruits and nuts with organic chocolate, raw cacao powder and melted coconut oil. Put into patty pans. Let set, then you're set.
No cooking! And they're so easy to do - simple to make. Your friends will love them (you too).
Paleo snack finale...
No fanfare. Use your imagination and do your research. The rewards are immeasurable.
